Play
Finally the inspiration hits. Puts things into movement, motivates. Playtime. Doing something that you enjoy. Looking around, and everything seems so fractured and disconnected, but there is a current that connects things. A motto, "Have Fun".
Listening to interviews with Linus lately, you know Linux Linus, he talks about how people should just work on what they are interested in doing. Or that is what people do, whom are successful in developing Free Software projects. There is also the well understood concept of "scratching an itch".
I apply this over to creative work. As a student of the Free Software universe, over the past decade, these developers have informed me and influenced me a great deal. There is also a great deal of creativity involved with these projects. Writing code, is akin to writing poetry, not to mention 'great' writing of either.
Some thought has been had lately, about how it would be interesting to write using a revision control system, like software coders use. Indeed many sites, are written in source control systems. I wonder if there are any tools, Free Software tools of cousre, geared toward creative writing and revision control.
Hoping to forge a theme or topic area for this site, this sort of thing, writing tools would fall in it's domain.
But the topic of this Post, is 'Play'. And that is also what this site is about. Giving me a place to play. The freedom to write or say what I please. As a somewhat fictional site, and persona whom authors these words, I'm free to write about my creator, in a way he is not free to do himself. Being a restrained and law abiding citizen, my voice does not abide by those same rules. So I can acknowledge his existence, where he dare not.
I know that he sometimes fears the device may be a symptom of schizophrenia, but I know that it is just a form of play. AFAIK there is no mental illness, but that is always a treacherous and questionable diagnosis. In my opinion there is no worse mental malady, than sanity.
Dysfunctionality aside, the point is play is important, and that this is a theme I want to work with, and this post could have been better but just serves as reminder of something I may want to work on in the future.
